FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why does mixing matter?
Decontamination chemistries need to be thoroughly mixed to yield 100% efficacy. This is true of all decontamination solutions, including Dahlgren Decon, DF200, and even traditional bleach-based products, because properly mixing activates each products’ active ingredients.
After proper mixing, Dahlgren Decon’s final pH should be between 6.8 – 7.2.
Why A, B1, B2 and not A, B, C?
Although Part A can be used alone to remove contamination, Dahlgren Decon Parts B1 and B2 must be used together to yield a pH neutral chemical neutralizer. Using these B-Parts individually or out-of-order will result in adverse effects.
Can I use Part A alone to remove contaminants?
Yes. Part A is extremely effective at physical removal of contamination and does not require regulatory (FDA) approval for the cleaning of skin. Part A does not neutralize contaminants and should only be used for physical removal.
Can I use Dahlgren Decon on skin?
Not yet. Dahlgren Decon has not yet been approved for use on skin.
Will Dahlgren Decon corrode my PPE or sensitive equipment?
No. Dahlgren Decon’s neutral pH, non-toxic by-products, and non-flammability allow for decontamination of most threats on personal protective equipment (PPE), sensitive equipment, and critical infrastructure.
I opened the B1 and B2 packets to see what was inside. Can I reseal for later use?
No. Once the B1 or B2 packets are opened they need to be used or discarded
THE DECON LANDSCAPE
Dahlgren Decon reduces the time to mix, apply, dwell, and clean-up which means a threat has less time to cause damage that would result in equipment or infrastructure to be discarded.
Dahlgren Decon has a higher efficiency in neutralizing larger areas of coverage with smaller volumes of solution than water, bleach, or hydrogen peroxide.
Dahlgren Decon Part A RTU is a ready-to-use liquid micro-emulsion surfactant carefully formulated to lower surface tension in order for contaminants to be easily wiped off or rinsed away. Part A is specifically designed to bind and coat threats to prevent potentially toxic off-gassing and enhances the ability for PAA to chemically destroy harmful contaminants.
Dahlgren Decon Part B1 works as the pH buffer in Dahlgren Decon. This component allows Dahlgren Decon to yield a neutral pH, and therefore makes full-strength Dahlgren Decon non-corrosive and safe to use on sensitive equipment and critical infrastructure after properly mixing.
Dahlgren Decon Part B2 holds the active ingredient for proper decontamination; fine-powdered Peracetic Acid (PAA). PAA effectively neutralizes most contaminants in a matter of minutes and leaves behind no toxic by-products.
BEAKER + STIR ROD
All 200 mL and 22 Oz Dahlgren Decon configurations come with a reusable and volume-appropriate beaker and stir rod to aid the end user in properly mixing the solution before applying it to the threat at hand.
